OUR HISTORY

Our brand was born from our passion to be innovative, by offering suitable alternatives to conventional food. We started this venture in 1975 in DRC (then it was known as Zaïre) where our offering was a locally made Sugar waffle.

In the 1990’s we expanded the business into South Africa, where we started producing rice cakes.

Our offering moved to a ‘healthier’ alternative: with less fat, less sugar and gluten-free. By offering our customers a better-for-you snacking alternative: Rice and Corn Cake Snacks.

One of the core features, of the Bakali brand, is the fact that we are gluten-free, and we position ourselves as an alternative to a loaf of bread. Recently we developed a new product range of “Veggie Cakes” Lentil Cakes and Sweet Potato Cakes.
